February 19, 2012 - Managing My Time and Treasures
Lesson and class discussion led by Bill Gambrell.
1 Dollar and 100 Dollar Bill
One day, a one dollar bill and a hundred dollar bill got folded together and began talking about their life experiences.
The hundred dollar bill began to brag:
"I've had a great life," he said. "I've been to all the big hotels, Donald Trump himself used me at his casino, I've been in the wallets of Fortune 500 board members, I've flown from one end of the country to the other! I've even been in the wallet of two Presidents of the United States, and once when Princess Diana visited the US, she used me to buy a packet of gum."
In awe, the dollar humbly responded, "Gee, nothing like that has ever happened to me, ...but I have been to church a lot!"

The Power of Words
One of the things I like best about my job is the opportunity to meet and talk to lots of people. I recently had the privilege of talking or rather listening to two Senior Adults, though I'm not sure what the politically correct term for Seniors is these days. Please advise me if you know! One of them is 83 years old and teaches my son's third grade Sunday Bible Study. I'm finding fewer and fewer people who are older than me, so this man stopped me in my tracks to have him greet me at the door of my son's class. The first thing I noticed about him was his extremely positive reports about my son when I picked him up. There was clearly something very special about this man aside from his stamina. He spoke of my son in glowing terms, about his helpfulness, his leadership, his intelligence. I watched my son stand taller and prouder every time he heard his teacher say these wonderful things about him. Did I mention he is 83 yrs. old! Someone approached him to participate in another ministry and he said that he was sorry but he would not be able to give up his class. He said being surrounded by his third grade boys listening to his every word would be hard to beat. This is a first for him, teaching third grade boys, and he loves it and the boys love him. That much is plain to see. I have a feeling it will not be his last.
I'm happy to report that three people in our class signed up last week to serve in the Preschool area in response to an urgent need! Jack and Nanci Scott and Nellie More, we thank you. There is a Ministry Expo this coming Sunday on the second floor of the atrium where you can find out more about serving in any ministry in our church.
If you are interested in serving in Preschool, you can contact PreschoolMinistry@jfbc.org to volunteer. Kristi Williams said that 11:15 is prime time for visitors and a great time to volunteer. They are also in need of 25 more volunteers at 9:50. She added that serving is a great way to show hospitality to visitors in allowing them to attend Worship and Bible Study while children get to participate in classrooms they love.
Thank You from bccbikthus on GodTube.

Welcome to the world!
What a great week we had last week with four of our class members welcoming grandchildren into their families. Our warmest congratulations to Bill and Lois and Mike and Debbie! A brand new life give us all such joy and hope. What is it about a baby? They are disarmingly cute little people for one thing. They have not one pretentious bone in their bodies. Pretty much what you see and smell is what you get. I don't know about you, but the Doritos sling shot baby commercial was my absolute favorite during the Super Bowl. Babies are fearless yet completely and totally dependent on others to take care of them. I love how they have no problem staring you down in the grocery check out line. Babies are flesh and blood evidence that God is still in the business of life. They are brand new people to share His story with. Children will not judge how you share God's story with them and they have no preconceived notions as to the correct method. It's no wonder Jesus had a soft spot for children. Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Mark 10:14

Limitations
Per our class discussion last week on "The Wiles of the Devil",having a good week? I've run into some limitations. I do not like them one bit, but they continue to make themselves known to me on a daily basis. They remind me again and again of my human frailty. My enemy loves to taunt me with my limitations and anything else he can come up with to discourage me on my mission to bring glory to God. Ah, but I have the antidote to discouragment, spending time with the one who is limitless! Discouragement is my call to spend time with Him and His beautiful word.
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. Psalm 19: 7-8
